Are books your favorite printed item?

What are your favorite books?

What is your favorite printed item?  Books, Magazines, catalogs, coupons (you “couponers” know who you are), posters, wrapping paper, I could go on listing forever.   Most people would say that books are by far their favorite printed items.  My favorite printed item is by far the album sleeve, or cover whichever you prefer to call it.  My affinity for music began as a young child as I gazed with wonder at my parents’ album covers.  And my love for music was fostered my entire childhood by my parents and was one of  the greatest gifts ever given to me.

Rolling Stone Magazine polled their customers in 2011 and asked them to vote on what they thought to be the best album covers of all time.  I have included a link to that list here.   I decided for fun and in an effort for my customers to get to know me better to include a list of some of my favorite album covers.  This list was compiled solely from an “artistic” point of view and is separate from my favorite albums list.

You are probably wondering why I like these so much?

Derek and the Dominos:  I have always been drawn to this cover because as a child I thought it was pretty, as I grew up and began to learn about art it reminded me of Picasso.

The Band:  Simple, I liked the elephant as a child and now it reminds me of Folk art.

Bruce Springsteen: How can anyone not love that cover???

The Beatles:  I always wondered where they were going and it is just such an iconic image…I mean come on, Abbey Road.

Dan Fogelberg:  This one scared me as a child; I was afraid of the doll placed at the tombstone, so it stuck with me.

Bob Dylan:  I always loved this photo of Dylan.  I even attempted to draw this album cover in my high school art class.

Big Brother and the Holding Company:  I just liked the cartoons.

The Rolling Stones:  Andy Warhol and it actually has a real zipper, need I say anymore?

Fleetwood Mac:  Stevie just looked so pretty on this cover and I was intrigued by her and Mic Fleetwood.

The Moody Blues:  This one scared me to death as a child, the man with the scary look on his face and long finger nails in the clouds…still gives me the chills…spooky!

Now you know my favorite printed item; what’s yours?

Until next time,
