Posters are great?  Aren’t they?  I have always had an affinity for band posters, even as an adult I have framed concert posters adorning the walls of my home.

I had a huge Smashing Pumpkins poster on my dorm room wall in college my freshmen year.  The thing was taller than me and I stand five foot eight inches, and a 1/2…can’t forget the 1/2!  It was an expression of who I was at that time in my life; what better way to express yourself than to plaster a poster of your favorite band on your wall?  I really started thinking about all of my college posters after watching a HBO film about Kurt Cobain.  It was a blast from the past and threw me back to a time when I considered myself to be at my creative “peak”.

 I think I was really inspired to write about self expression and art by HBO’s “Kurt Cobain: A Montage of Heck”.  I was just the right age when “Grunge” hit the music scene and it really spoke to me at a time in my life when I was very young and impressionable, in fact I was in high school.  I was surprised again at how talented and expressive Kurt Cobain was, and to the unfortunate luck of my husband and friends I have been on a grunge kick for the past 2 weeks.

A couple of key things to remember when submitting files for large format:

  • Your image needs to be high resolution, at least 300 pixels per inch
  • Sufficient print bleed is required (1/8″ on all 4 sides) if you want your image to bleed to the edges, unless you want your poster to have a white border
